Morphology of an intermittent city

Vestiges of Luanda projected onto a suspended reality. Two
ecosystems connected by arteries-roots in mutation. The surface, the geometry
of consumption that uninterruptedly extracts resources, the compulsion of
everyday life, the digitalisation of identities. Underground, bionic roots
reconfigure a failing organism, developing ways of sustaining and adapting. The
asymmetrical risk between life and death, in friction. The choreography of the
people, the spasms that improvise the present and designate the future.

CHORUS 1.8 - de composição de um grito

The mouth, restricted, rehearses experiences
of a violent invasion. The burying of speech, the convulsion of words, the
condensation of the voice, repetition.

A scream implodes. A scream explodes.

Particles tear through space to be survival
and creation. Indigo blue conflates materialisation. The dense, implacable,
mutant chorus incites becoming. The emergence of the future erodes the previous
act. "You have to destroy in order to start again". (James Stinson, Drexciya)

CHORUS 1.8 - the composition of a scream,
observes the mouth, whose channels of communicability contain dark residues of
historically violent events. Indigo blue "is the liquid atmosphere of
death and liberation that only the whirlwind of sounds and the infinite shaking
of bodies lets us sense. The urgency to get up, to walk. To get back into the
air." (Branca Clara das Neves)

CHORUS 1.8 is a
tentacular project involving installation, performance, workshops and a
conference.
CHORUS 1.8 is a project funded by the Portuguese Republic – Culture / Directorate-General for the Arts.

	CHORUS 1.8 - latente

Underground paths are
fruitful avenues for creation and reconstruction. They generate movements and
reformulations of existences.

In the archaeological
transmission of gestures, they spread branches that grow in urban voids,
building hidden survival strategies.

Breathing. Demand.
Creating.

Coro dos Assombrados by Zia Soares.
Performance in dialogue with the CHORUS 1.8 - latente installation.
“‘Coro dos Assombrados’ takes place in the mouth. It goes from mouth to mouth until it enters mine. I swallow broken skins and the bones of bodies that come from over there, from the other side, mixed with shoes and laments, to find me. The devouring mouth has to expel these salty corals. And after bleeding the salt from the wounds, the mouth, armoured, it falls asleep in the night of sparkling silences.” (Zia Soares)

“FANUN RUIN begins with the meeting with the Timorese skulls in Coimbra. It begins with the Timorese insurgent banished to Angola and the Angolan woman who is banished. It starts with the questions.
What did the faces of those who were cut off look like? Where are the remains of the skulls?
When will the usurped bones return? Who is waiting for them?
Who still remembers? Who wants to forget?
How to embody the bones?
The actress speaks. She puts life into her voice.” (Zia Soares)

The woman dressed as a military heroine lives in the interleaving, sometimes simultaneously, sometimes solo, of digital and real-time performance, obsessed with the uninterrupted task of intervening with the metaphysics of the room. She builds geometries that transit between trenches, branches and excavations, and that challenge the accuracy of the center. The center always reestablishes itself in the impossibility of deferring barriers. It is in the continuous friction of the actions that the scene opens, producing delirium: the woman becomes a homeland, a map, a lost territory whose cause is urgent to defend. And the violence shows itself, polysemic. To disposeTo trapTo disguise in camouflageTo watch overTo blowTo restart

	A Ilha

The island appears as a metaphor for mourning.

And mourning as the recovery of memory.

During my last trip to São Tomé and Príncipe, my father's
homeland, I was once again confronted with his absence. I found myself on his
island, surrounded by sea and endless vegetation. I tried to fill myself with his
"presence" and recover the memory of what I didn't experience with
him. I created a new affection for the island. Between nostalgia and the
emptiness of his absence, "there is no time".

Sonic Performance by Zia Soares as part of the “Mirages and Deep Time” exhibition by Mónica de Miranda.
This performance is based on a reading of Amílcar Cabral’s agrarian studies, and puts into play the relations between soil and memory, between ecology and resistance, topics that are already brought to attention in the exhibition space through the photographs, the film and the sculptures presented by Mónica de Miranda. Zia Soares proposes a performative intervention, deepening the connections between the past present and futures of ecological and anti-colonial resistance.Written and performed by: Zia SoaresSound creation: Mestre André
